Monday’s TN House Floor Session Canceled

03 May 2010
by TN Press Release Center

Email to House Members and Staff from Speaker Kent Williams, May 3, 2010:

I have just spoken with Paul Degges with the Tennessee Department of Transportation concerning road conditions.

I also spoke earlier with Speaker Emeritus Naifeh who is outside of Nashville having driven in from Covington.

After talking with these gentlemen and with others it seems that most if not all members coming from West Tennessee can get to the Legislative Plaza.

However with the detours involved they may well not make it by our 4:00pm session time. Other members have also advised they will not be here by 4:00pm.

With that in mind and with the current conditions in downtown Nashville in mind I am recommending that we not try to go into session at 4:00pm this afternoon.

I am recommending that all bills set for tonight be rolled until our Wednesday floor session.

I am also recommending that all Committees that will be meeting on Tuesday begin 1 hour later than scheduled to make sure everyone can get downtown if they are staying outside the downtown area.

I will be providing additional updates on road conditions as those updates come to me.

Many people in the Middle Tennessee area have suffered great devastation and there has been loss of life.

Please keep all those who have died and who have suffered losses in your thoughts and prayers.

Kent Williams

Speaker of the House
