Wamp Focuses On West Tennessee ‘Ag Corridor’

Press Release from Zach Wamp for Governor, May 12, 2010:

JACKSON – Zach Wamp, Republican candidate for Governor, today visited with business and community leaders from Jackson and Madison County to discuss his 20/20 Vision For an Even Better Tennessee and to present his specific plans for a new “Agriculture Corridor” to help bolster job creation in the region by capitalizing on West Tennessee’s many economic strengths and advantages.

Wamp outlined his bold new “production agenda” in the manufacturing, agricultural and high-tech sectors, and underscored his support for the new Haywood County Mega Site, the regional work of the West Tennessee Industrial Development Association, and development of a new “Ag Corridor” to take advantage of West Tennessee’s existing agri-business infrastructure and assets to create new jobs and greater economic opportunity across the region.

“Agriculture is a vital part of our state’s economy,” said Wamp. “Our farmers and growers were this state’s first and best producers, and we need to bring together West Tennessee’s key leaders and educational institutions to leverage this region’s strengths as a national distribution hub and agriculture center to create new and better jobs.”

“My proposal for a new ‘Agriculture Corridor’ throughout West Tennessee will help us be more aggressive in going after and landing the new high-tech jobs of the future.”

Wamp said his “Ag Corridor” will help accelerate the state’s focus on economic and workforce development in the critical areas of science, engineering, transportation, logistics and the rapidly expanding bio-fuel and energy sectors to create a powerful new economic engine for West Tennessee and the entire Mid-South.

“Manufacturers are drawn to Tennessee because of our right-to-work status, low-cost of living, high quality of life, great work ethic and no state income tax,” Wamp said. “As Governor, I will utilize each and every one of these assets to recruit new business and investment and help small and existing businesses grow the jobs of the future.”

Wamp is in West Tennessee as part of a two-day campaign swing that includes events in Shelby County, Fayette County and Jackson in Madison County.
