A suspicious letter was intercepted in the Capitol Hill mail room Thursday and has been turned over to the FBI, according to Tennessee state government officials.
Officials have declined to identify who the letter was addressed to or what it contained that drew attention to it.
Upon noticing the letter Thursday morning, mail room staff contacted the Tennessee Highway Patrol, who contacted the state’s Emergency Management Agency, according to Jennifer Donnals, a spokeswoman for the Department of Safety. The case is now in the hands of the FBI, she said.
The mail room, located on the ground floor of the Capitol Building, was blocked off in the morning and remained blocked off in the afternoon.
