“I think our teachers know that when students do their homework at the last minute, they make more mistakes. My concern is that when these maps are turned in at the last minute, there are going to be a lot of mistakes that hurt communities and result in confusion that could have been avoided. Because of the lack of detail to many of these maps, voters on district edges can’t tell who their elected officials will be, and they might not know until these bills are passed and signed into law.
“The Ad Hoc Committee on Redistricting contained no Senators. This process is not something that should be taken lightly, and yet Republican leadership in the Senate seems to be fine with keeping Tennesseans in the dark. We need a more thorough review process that provides the kind of time, attention and open discussion that our local communities deserve.”
