It’s Tennessee’s Turn- Early Voting Begins Today
With early voting beginning today for Tennessee’s Presidential Primary, we wanted to provide you with a one-stop resource for information on our candidates, and address any general voting questions, including voting locations.
Today, we officially launched a new web page titled “It’s Tennessee’s Turn.” This web page includes links to voting locations, information on early and absentee voting, details on the state’s new voter ID law, and information on the Republican candidates for President. The web page also features a live Twitter stream to provide voters with real time updates and results on election night.
This election will be the first time for voters to express their concern over the direction of our country and the lack of leadership from President Obama. Tennessee voters are eager to get to the polls because they understand that we cannot afford four more years of President Obama’s reckless economic policies.
On election night, you can receive election updates by subscribing to our text message alert system by texting “TNGOP” to 66502. Real time updates will also be posted on this new web page via Twitter. You can access the new web page at www.tngop.org or by clicking HERE.
If you are a teenage or college Republican, we hope that you’ve made plans to attend TNGOP University next Saturday, February 25th in Nashville. We are teaming up with the Tennessee College Republicans to host this event, which is designed to better train and equip young voters to spread our message and elect Republicans at all levels. I hope that you will encourage any young voters, whether in college or high school, to attend this exciting event. You can register for the Tennessee College Republican convention or just TNGOP University for FREE HERE.
Tennessee Republicans Join Other States Challenging Obamacare
Governor Bill Haslam, Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey and House Speaker Beth Harwell released the following statements on their support of a brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court arguing against the constitutionality of Obamacare:
Governor Bill Haslam: “The Obama administration’s approach is an unaffordable healthcare mandate that is a significant overstep of the federal government’s authority.
“I’m committed to controlling health care costs and finding meaningful ways to improve the health of Tennesseans by encouraging healthy choices, personal responsibility and accountability. Forcing mandates on states and individuals is the wrong approach, and if Obamacare is implemented, healthcare costs will rise significantly, putting a serious strain on state budgets across this country.”
Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey: “The White House plan will stifle innovation and actually increase the cost of insurance. It is time that states push back to let Washington know that we are not going to stand by idly when this healthcare law so blatantly infringes on the constitutional rights of the states and the personal freedoms of our citizens.”
Speaker Beth Harwell: “The federal government grossly overstepped their bounds by passing Obamacare, a federal mandate that directly infringes on the rights and freedoms we hold dear. Healthcare decisions, which are best made by each individual and their doctor, will now be regulated by bureaucrats in Washington. The unfunded mandate of Obamacare will cost already cash-strapped states billions to implement, and drive up the cost of healthcare in our country.
“Freedom, not government control, is what made the United States the most prosperous country on the planet. I fully support the efforts of those asking the Supreme Court to overturn this law.”
