Press release from the Tennessee Firearms Association; March 20, 2012:
Immediate need for Your Involvement
Today, Tuesday March 20, and tomorrow, all of the key bills on the Employee Safe Commute legislation are on notice to be heard in subcommittees in the House and Senate.
The key bills that TFA supports are HB3560/SB3002 and HB3559/SB2992. These bills are also supported by the NRA. It is our expectation that the bills are scheduled for committee hearings. However, we anticipate that the bills are subject to being rolled or outright delayed in the hopes by leadership that the committees will close before any recorded votes can be taken on the floors of the House and Senate.
YOU must take action if you support these bills. Contact your House and Senate members. Demand that they move these bills to the floor. Even if they try to stonewall you by saying that they are not serving on these committees – insist. They have the power as elected representatives to go to their peers and say —
“Hey, I am getting a lot of calls and emails from my constituents in support of this bill. They want me to vote on it. Please move it to the floor so that I will have a chance to represent the interests of my constituents.”
You should ALSO go to the TFA Action Center and use it to contact all legislators in these committees and in leadership to demand that these bills move forward. Show them that you care enough to take a minute to defend your rights – contact these elected officials today and demand that they support your rights even if Big Business witholds its money from their campaign accounts.
Every minute counts. Do not send just one communication or make one phone call. Flood the offices and email accounts several times a day to keep the message at the top of their lists. Let them know that you are paying attention and what your demands are of them.
Campaign Primaries – Challengers Needed
If we have learned anything over the last two years of total Republican control of state government, we have learned that the Republicans in the legislature are, notwithstanding what a House leader claimed, not 100% supportive or for that matter understanding of the Second Amendment or your rights under it as citizens. Certainly there are some but it appears that they are either in a minority or that they are being whipped by leadership to take a course of action contrary to their promises and convictions.
What we have learned is that some of those in leadership as well as some of those who voted to empower those in leadership have taken Tennessee citizens for granted because, as Rep. Debra Maggart puts it “Tennessee’s conservatives have no choice but to support the Republicans.” – Really? Does she think we have to support those Republicans who have turned their backs on Tennessee’s citizens and conservatives that, believing in their promises of a “greener pasture” trusted and put them in power?
What we have learned is that many of them have bowed at the foot of the gods of Big Business’ Money and are doing so not to be better stewards and servants of the people but are doing so to exchange whatever Big Business asks for the Money that Big Business offers. There is a name for that. One of those names needs to be “Former”.
Tonight, the Nashville TFA chapter is having its monthly meeting at the Golden Corral in Hermitage. The first part of that meeting is dedicated to meeting and talking with a candidate who has announced she is running against one of the most financially powerful members of the Tennessee House of Representatives – Rep. Debra Maggart herself.
This challenger is Lt. Col. Courtney Rogers. She may be the opportunity that conservatives need to start down a path of primaring and defeating current elected officials who have demonstrated an arrogance of taking for granted those who voted them into office and using their offices primarily to build campaign warchests with “money” from Big Business.
Please come to this meeting to meet and evaluate Lt. Col. Rogers. The meeting time is 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm
Lt. Col. Courtney Rogers retired from the Air Force in 2008 after 28 years of active Air Force and Air National Guard duty. She has announced that she is going to run against Rep. Debra Maggart who serves the 45 District but who has become an adversary of 2nd Amendment issues. For those of you who do not know her or of her, here is a speaking engagement that she participated in:
and a prayer she gave recently at a public event
Arrive early – 5:00 to 5:30 would be good. Eat in the meeting room if possible and if not, get as close as you can. We will try finishing eating by 7:00 in the meeting room to clear out everything but drinks for the meeting if we have a large turnout.
Location: Golden Corral Hermitage
315 Old Lebanon Dirt Rd
Hermitage, TN 37076
IT IS IMPORTANT TO PAY AT GOLDEN CORRAL AS YOU COME IN FOR THE MEETING IF YOU ARE EATING. TELL THEM THAT AT THE CASH REGISTER THAT YOU ARE THERE FOR THE MEETING AND TO APPLY THE “GROUP RATE” WHICH INCLUDES YOUR DRINK.
