Letter from Sen. Jim Kyle; April 2, 2012:
On Friday, I filed my petition to be a candidate for Senate District 30.
I have had the privilege of serving the people of Shelby County in Tennessee’s Senate for nearly 30 years; it has been an honor to represent the interests of Memphis to our state government, and this year I will ask the voters to send me back for another term. As Democratic Leader, I am in the unique position to keep our fine city at the forefront of innovation and change.
In my time in office, I have been a tireless advocate for the middle and working classes, helping to ensure that Tennessee’s job outlook is bright for many years to come. I am proud of my record on improving education, and will stand firm against any efforts to roll back progress, from elementary education to HOPE scholarships. At present, I am working on a proposal to fully eliminate the sales tax on groceries, and I hope that my colleagues will join my in this effort.
There is much work to be done for our state, and I look forward to having conversations in the coming months with the citizens of District 30 to keep Tennessee moving forward. Thank you for your support in the past, and I hope that you will consider supporting me in the future.
