NASHVILLE, TN – Firefighters lost in the line of duty will be honored at the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy’s annual memorial service at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. Commerce and Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Julie Mix McPeak will provide remarks.
“At Commerce and Insurance – which includes the State’s Fire Prevention Division – we cherish the courageous, selfless service of Tennessee’s firefighters. We also take seriously our efforts to train them and to honor those who nobly give their lives in the line of duty,” McPeak said.
In calendar year 2011, the firefighter memorial committee was notified of no losses of firefighters in the line of duty. So far this year, the death of Decaturville Fire Chief Kenny Fox is the only loss. There is a reward for information related to Fox’s death (for more information, see http://1.usa.gov/MGRTF6).
Founded in 2002, the Tennessee Fallen Firefighter Memorial (TFFM) Committee comprises individuals from the various fire service organizations across Tennessee: Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association, Tennessee Fireman’s Association, Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy, the Tennessee Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains and the Tennessee Professional Firefighters Association.
