Press Release from the Mary Mancini for TN Senate Dist. 21 Campaign, Feb. 12, 2014:
SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION (SEIU) LOCAL 205 ENDORSES DISTRICT 21 STATE SENATE CANDIDATE MARY MANCINI
Nashville, Tenn. (February 11, 2014) – The SEIU Local 205 today announced their endorsement of Mary Mancini in the Democratic primary for the District 21 State Senate seat. The seat is currently held by Senator Doug Henry, who is retiring at the end of the current legislative session.
SEIU Local 205 represents thousands of public employees working for Metro Government, Metro Schools, Nashville Electric Service, and employees in private sector companies across Davidson County and across the state.
Doug Collier, President of SEIU Local 205, said “We are proud to support a pro-worker, pro-union candidate like Mary Mancini to represent the 21st District. Mary’s unwavering support for workers’ rights, voting rights, and affordable health care are the values that our members want to see in the state capitol. While right-wing radicals in the state government make life tougher every day for Tennesseans who work for a living, Mary is ready to hit the ground running to ensure that regular working folks will have a voice in the halls of power.”
As executive director of Tennessee Citizen Action, Mancini worked with the leadership and members of SEIU Local 205 to advance the cause of workers’ rights and improve wages and working conditions for men and women in Tennessee.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the SEIU. Local 205 plays a critical role in making sure working men and women across Nashville and across the state receive the representation they need and the wages and working conditions they deserve,” Mancini said. “I look forward to continuing to work with them as a state senator and to hold Republicans accountable when they put the wants of large corporations and the Tea Party ahead of the needs of the people who live and work here.”
In addition to the endorsement of the SEIU Local 205, Mancini’s campaign has been enjoying a groundswell of support from voters across the district. Her campaign reported over $65,000 raised in just three months and has been knocking on doors and calling voters since early January.
Mary Mancini is a candidate for State Senate in District 21 and is committed to making sure the state legislature is focused on improving life for all Tennesseans, and holding Republicans accountable. As executive director of Tennessee Citizen Action, she has fought to advance progressive priorities at the state level for the last three years and has been an advocate for the last ten. She has appeared on MSNBC, written columns for papers across the state, produced the documentary Uncounted and co-hosted one of Nashville’s first liberal talk radio shows, Liberadio with Mary Mancini & Freddie O’Connell. Mary lives in the Woodland-in-Waverly neighborhood with her husband, Kurt, and their three hound dogs.
