Press Release from the Tennessee Democratic Party, Feb. 21, 2014:
Democrats Push Back Against ‘Red to the Roots’
In a statement issued on Friday, Tennessee Democratic Party chairman Roy Herron pushed back against Tennessee GOP’s announced ‘Red to the Roots’ program:
“Not content with imposing their Tea Party agenda through the state legislature, Republicans are now intent on pushing their brand of rigidity at the expense of common sense onto local government as well. Such outrageous overreach will only backfire as Tennessee voters realize Tennessee Republicans’ destructive intent.
The Tennessee Democratic Party and Democrats statewide will be fighting back and focusing on local races like never before. We will equip our candidates with the sophisticated tools, analytics, and services they need to run cutting-edge campaigns, and we will work closely with our Democratic county chairs and House and Senate caucuses to make sure that our state becomes blue to the bone instead of red to the roots.
We look forward to having a conversation in this state, up and down the ballot, about returning to common-sense Tennessee values. We welcome the opportunity to showcase our support for economic growth, health services, and public schools, and to hold Republicans accountable for time and again placing the needs of the narrow and privileged few over the day-to-day priorities of Tennessee families.
