Nashville’s 5th Annual Kids & Kites Day Set for April 5; Fun-filled event to fight childhood obesity is free, open to all
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 5th Annual Kids & Kites Day to fight childhood obesity will take place April 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.
“One third of children in America are overweight or obese,” said Rep. Brenda Gilmore (District 54). “This is a serious public health issue, and together, through events such as this, we can raise awareness about the importance of living healthier. Kids & Kites will help us show youth that getting regular physical activity and eating healthier can be fun and make you feel good.”
Event attendees will enjoy family-focused programming, including fun activities for youth of all ages such as face painting, games, dancing and kite flying. There will also be a family walk led by Black Girls Run. Healthy snacks will be served, and a number of great prizes and giveaways are planned throughout the day.
The event is being organized by state Rep. Brenda Gilmore, Metro Councilwoman Erica Gilmore and Fantasia in Red Hatter Lois Winston.
CVS Pharmacy is the event’s presenting sponsor. Event partners include: New Life Program, Tennessee State Parks, Tennessee Department of Health, Farmer’s Market, Flying Tiger Foundation, Mr. Big Time Healthy and the Governor’s Foundation for Health and Wellness.
