Press release from the State of Tennessee, May 21, 2014:
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development is taking its Career Center services on the road to more than 30 Tennessee counties this spring and summer via the department’s three “Career Coaches.”
These mobile units are staffed with Tennessee Department of Labor interviewers ready to assist job applicants in registering for work, searching for a job and following up later at home using the department’s online database, www.jobs4tn.gov, which features more than 85,000 Tennessee jobs.
“We’re sending mobile units to counties with high unemployment rates to give job seekers the same services they would have as if they visited one of our Career Centers. In many cases, we will also have area employers on-site to interview prospective workers,” said Labor Commissioner Burns Phillips.
David Burnham, human resources manager for Lowe’s in Dyersburg, was on hand for a recent Career Coach recruiting event in Ripley. “The Career Coach job fair was a really good – and fun – experience,” he said. “The Department of Labor staff was great to work with. We recruited several workers that day who passed the assessment and whom we’re going to call back to see about working at Lowe’s. We were very pleased and hope to do it again.”
Career Coach visits are planned for the following 34 counties. For a schedule, of all Career Coach visits go to www.getonthecoach.tn.gov/.
