Below is a press release from Tennessee House GOP Caucus Chairman Glen Casada, issued June 4, 2014. Rep. Casada is running for re-election to the Legislature against Cherie Hammond, a Republican member of the Williamson County school board.
The following is a statement from State Representative Glen Casada (R–Thompson’s Station) regarding recent rule changes from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that will increase energy costs for all Tennesseans and endanger the livelihood of thousands more:
“These new regulations from the EPA put Tennessee at an unfair disadvantage to those blue states that already practice state-level cap and trade regulations or have different means of creating power. The Obama administration is playing politics with Tennessee jobs to reward states that have bought in to heavily taxpayer subsidized alternative forms of energy.”
“As such, my office is drafting a request for the Attorney General to take action and challenge the EPA based on Article 1, section 9 of the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits the federal government from showing preference to one state over another through its regulation of commerce.”
“In addition, my policy analyst is working with our legal department to draft legislation to correct the issue, regardless of the Attorney General’s actions .”
