Press Release from the Jeff Yarbro for Tennessee Senate Campaign, June 26, 2014:
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education (TEA-FCPE), the political arm of the Tennessee Education Association, has announced its endorsement of Jeff Yarbro for Tennessee State Senate in District 21.
“The decision to endorse this friend of public education was an easy one for Metro educators,” said Gera Summerford, TEA president. “Jeff is a strong candidate with a history of supporting students and teachers. He recognizes that Tennessee’s future depends on strong public schools. We look forward to working with him in the 2015 legislative session.”
Yarbro has been a longtime volunteer in Nashville public schools, serving as both a volunteer tutor at Antioch Middle School and a leader of the district’s efforts to improve high schools. For the last eight years, he has worked with, listened to, and supported educators in our schools. Based on his work in Metro Schools, Yarbro was recognized as one of the Pencil Foundation’s Volunteers of the Year.
“The legislature changes education policy all the time without bothering to listen to the teachers in our classrooms who will be affected,” said Yarbro. “I look forward to having an open door for our teachers and joining with them in the hard work of improving our public schools.”
The Tennessee Education Association is the state’s largest professional organization representing more than 46,000 elementary and secondary teachers, school administrators, education support personnel, higher education faculty, and students preparing to become teachers.
