Gary Wade, chief justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court, talks about the upcoming August retention election and the dismissal of an ethics complaint brought against him last fall. Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, a Republican, has suggested Wade and fellow Justices Cornelia Clark and Sharon Lee — all of whom were appointed by former Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat — may face a concerted opposition campaign aimed at convincing voters to unseat them. Also, Mike Bell, a Republican who serves as the state Senate’s Government Operations Committee chairman, has said he’s considering hearings into the Board of Judicial Conducts handling of the ethical complaint against Wade, which he, Bell, initiated last year. Wade spoke with TNReport on May 28 in Cookeville on the campus of Tennessee Tech University.
