TN House Dist. 50 Challenger Says Automatic Minimum Wage Increases Would Kill Jobs

Press Release from Dave Rosenberg, Candidate for TN House District 50:

Rosenberg States Opposition to Plot to Wipe Out Jobs and Small Businesses

Nashville, TN – Tennessee House District 50 candidate Dave Rosenberg today announced his opposition to a bill introduced by opponent Rep. Gary Moore that calls for periodic automatic increases in Tennessee’s minimum wage.

“This bill is a disaster in waiting,” Rosenberg said. “Escalating Tennessee’s minimum wage above the federal level will hurt workers by sending jobs out of state and it will hurt local business owners by making it more difficult for them to grow their companies.”

Rosenberg noted that the bill, known in the recently ended House session as HB0838, will make the Tennessee minimum wage higher than all of Tennessee’s border states, guaranteeing job creators more bang for their buck in those eight states (and, in fact, 35 other states).

“Too often, our lawmakers seek political expediency over good governance. This is a stark example: a bill that sounds good but whose unintended consequences have been ignored. We all want higher wages—Tennesseans’ economy thrives when people have more money to spend—but unfortunately this bill will have the reverse effect and ultimately damage the people it is intended to help.”
