Press Release from Zach Wamp for Governor; July 13, 2010:
Jim Bryson, Tennessee’s 2006 GOP Nominee, Jack Faris, Former NFIB Leader, say Wamp is Best for Tennessee
Nashville – Fresh on the heels of Zach Wamp’s big win in last night’s statewide gubernatorial debate, Wamp today picked up two more major endorsements from top leaders in the state.
Jim Bryson, the Republican nominee for Tennessee Governor in 2006, and Jack Faris, longtime Tennessee political activist and former President and CEO of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), today officially endorsed Republican Zach Wamp for Governor.
“I’m honored and grateful to have leaders like Jim Bryson and Jack Faris join our campaign for Governor,” said Wamp. “I have the utmost respect for both of these great Tennesseans who have meant so much to so many working families and small business people all across our state and across the entire nation. Their full support and confidence in me means a lot personally and to our winning campaign.”
Jim Bryson was elected to the State Senate in 2002, serving in the 103rd and 104th General Assemblies. He served as Secretary of the Government Operations Committee and as a member of the Senate Commerce, Labor and Agriculture Committee, the Senate Education Committee, and the Fiscal Review Committee. He was noted as one of the Assembly’s most vocal advocates of Right to Life and anti-gun control views.
“Zach Wamp is a natural leader with a clear vision for this state that he has presented clearly and consistently,” said Bryson. “Zach has a strong record of uniting people for the common good. He is the right man to lead Tennessee forward in the challenging times ahead.”
Faris led the NFIB from 1992 to 2006 and was ranked as the most influential small business leader in the nation by Fortune Small Business Magazine. During his tenure at NFIB, he led the nation’s leading small business advocacy group to be ranked as the most effective business group in the nation according to Fortune Magazine’s poll.
“For 14 years I’ve known Zach to be a consistent strong voice and vote for small business,” said Faris. “He is the strong effective leader with a conservative record that Tennessee needs for our children’s future.”
Prior to joining NFIB, Faris owned a management consulting firm for 12 years. His background includes business and politics, having served as campaign finance director for Senator Lamar Alexander’s successful gubernatorial campaign, fundraiser for President Ronald Reagan and as executive director of the Republican National Finance Committee. He is a nationally recognized spokesperson, having appeared regularly on leading news outlets including Newsweek, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC.
Often called the “Region’s Mayor” by U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, Zach Wamp’s work to promote a regional approach to economic development in the Tennessee Valley Technology Corridor has led to many of the state’s biggest economic wins in recent years right in his congressional district.
These include Volkswagen and Wacker Chemie in the Chattanooga area, new missions and investments in Oak Ridge, new bio-fuel, nuclear and solar energy investments throughout the region, and thousands of growing small business jobs generated from these and other related manufacturing investments. As governor, Wamp will take his leadership in economic development and new job creation to the rest of Tennessee.
