The early voting totals in Mt. Juliet are in, and they show voters in favor of banning city officeholders from holding other offices. The measure is ahead, 2,589 to 251.
That could be a problem for Mt. Juliet Mayor Linda Elam, who has not said whether she would give up the post if she won her race for state House, The Tennessean reported last week. Elam, a Republican, is leading in the District 57 race with 9,902 votes to Democrat Allen Barry’s 2,791. Independents Luther Lenning and Heather Scott each have more than 1,000 votes so far.
