Herron Calls on Alexander to Have a Statewide Televised Debate with Ball

Press release from the Tennessee Democratic Party; October 16, 2014:

Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Roy Herron released the following statement in response to Senator Lamar Alexander’s continued refusal to debate Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Gordon Ball:

“I attended the candidate forum this morning in Cookeville with a handful of staff from both campaigns and 75 members of the Tennessee Farm Bureau.

“’Run Far Lamar’ is running as far away from 6 million Tennesseans and from his record as he possibly can. Senator Alexander ought to have a real debate, in front of more than 75 people, with TV cameras so all Tennesseans can see why this career politician doesn’t deserve a seventh decade on the government payroll.

“But he’s afraid of Tennesseans seeing how out of tune and out of touch he is because he’s betrayed them so many times, voting against raising the minimum wage, against equal pay for women, and against senior citizens. Tennesseans deserve a real debate, and it’s time for ‘Run Far Lamar’ to stop running away from Tennesseans and debate Gordon Ball.”
