TNDP Chair: Rep. Fincher Should ‘Denounce’ Staffer’s Criticism of Obama Children

Press release from the Tennessee Democratic Party; Dec. 1, 2014:

DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN CALLS ON REP. FINCHER TO RENOUNCE STAFFER’S FACEBOOK ATTACK ON OBAMA CHILDREN

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Roy Herron called on Congressman Stephen Fincher today to renounce the personal attacks that one of his staff members made against Sasha and Malia Obama on Facebook.

“Ms. Lauten’s public attacks on two children were cruel, outrageous, and inexcusable,” said Chairman Herron. “This unprecedented low in Washington mudslinging is absolutely toxic for our civic life and political culture. That is why I’m calling on Congressman Fincher to denounce Ms. Lauten’s comments.”

Elizabeth Lauten, Rep. Fincher’s Communications Director, posted disparaging comments about the President’s children on her personal Facebook page last Friday, in response to a photo of the teen girls at the White House turkey pardoning ceremony.

Ms. Lauten said that the girls needed to “show a little class”, that their parents were not “good role models”, and also told them to “dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.”

She posted a retraction of her statement on Facebook Friday evening, but the retraction did not include a direct apology to Sasha and Malia.
